  Frequently Asked Questions
  What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the science and art of locating misaligned spinal vertebrae (subluxations) that may be causing nerve pressure (irritation) and then, gently realigning the spinal vertebrae to help relieve the nerve irritation and restore normal nerve transmission to improve overall health. Subluxations occur when spinal joints become misaligned as a result of daily stress, poor posture, improper lifting, housework, yard work, falls, auto accidents, or even a vigorous sneeze!
  What do Chiropractors treat?
Chiropractic adjustments are helpful in alleviating the following conditions: Neck and back pain, pinched nerves (sciatica, brachial neuritis, etc.), muscle spasms, headaches (tension and migraine), numbness in the hands and feet, carpal tunnel syndrome, asthma, nervous stomach (caused by stress), strains to the shoulder, hips and knees. Only a Chiropractor is qualified to determine if your condition can be helped by chiropractic methods.
  Are Chiropractic adjustments painful?
Most patients report that even when they come into our office with severe pain, that the spinal adjustments are not painful at all. In fact, after an adjustment, most patients feel immediate relief of pain and feel more relaxed.
Will Adjustments make my spine too loose?
No, because only the spinal joints that are "Locked up" receive adjustments. This allows weakened muscles and ligaments to stabilize and heal. Can I adjust myself? No. Some patients can make their joints "pop" but that's not an adjustment! Even Chiropractors must go to chiropractors to get a proper adjustment or alignment.
  Are adjustments Safe?
Yes. When properly performed, chiropractic adjustments are not only safe, but are a drug and surgery free method for improving your health.
Will I have to go to a chiropractor forever?
No. But depending on your spinal condition (chronic problems such as arthritis, disc disease, fibromyalgia, headaches, etc.) your chiropractor may recommend periodic checkups to help prevent major discomfort in your back and neck. Just as you might continue regularly to see your dentist for good oral hygiene, then taking care of your spine is also a lifelong process of eating right, exercise, and getting regular spinal alignments. Think of spinal adjustments as a "tune-up" for your body.
  Can Chiropractors treat sport injuries?
Emphatically yes! In fact, most professional sports teams (football, basketball, baseball) have chiropractors on their medical teams. Also, golfers, bowlers, and cyclists use personal chiropractors on their tours. Although, chiropractors do not treat fractures or dislocations, they can provide relief from pain and help improve an athletes form to enhance their performance.
Do Medical Doctors like Chiropractors now?
Most definitely! In fact, the council of International Organization of Medical Sciences recently stated, " The relationship between the medical and chiropractic professions worldwide has become increasingly one of mutual respect and collaboration".
Finally, Is the Chiropractor a real Doctor?
Yes. Chiropractors earn a D.C. (Doctor of Chiropractic) from a federally accredited 4 year post college institution. The doctor of chiropractic studies all the basic sciences and must pass 100% of the rigorous National board examinations. Then as medical doctors, chiropractors must pass a state board of examiners to be licensed.

I hope this answers most of your questions. Again, please do not hesitate to contact this office if you have further questions.
